Our kids’ futures will require them to be:

• Networked–They’ll need an “outboard brain.”
• More collaborative–They are going to need to work closely with people to co-create information.
• More globally aware–Those collaborators may be anywhere in the world.
• Less dependent on paper–Right now, we are still paper training our kids.
• More active–In just about every sense of the word. Physically. Socially. Politically.
• Fluent in creating and consuming hypertext–Basic reading and writing skills will not suffice.
• More connected–To their communities, to their environments, to the world.
• Editors of information–Something we should have been teaching them all along but is even more important now.

原文标题为”What Do We Know About Our Kids’ Futures? Really.”，作者没有正面回答这个问题，(也许他认为没人有资格回答吧)，倒是写出了一个孩子需要哪些素质来赢得未来。用一句话可以概括为：脑子里 要有种”连接”的观念，随时准备与来自世界各地的人们协作，哪怕这种协作只是一种读与写的交流。

3. Teachers have to model all of these skills…. If teachers aren’t able to network, to create knowledge, to demonstrate a thirst for learning experiences, then we’ll never be able to teach it. Unfortunately, the need for transformation is not seen as a need by so many of todays teachers, who did well at school and like things just the way they are. First step… Inspire educators to network with one another (both locally and globally) and to learn about ‘present-day’ technologies. If we do that, the future may well take care of itself.

我极其推崇第一条，即让孩子们学会如何学习。第二条听起来很有情调，至少比”终身学习”这个名词舒服，虽然表达的是同一个意思，即将学习新事物融入为自己的生活方式。第三条留言我整个搬了过来，讲的就是我昨天提到的一名老师”如何成为21世纪的教育家“，留言说的很有道理，如果连老师自己都没做到，怎么好意思要求自己的学生呢。
